Emil "Lynn" Burress Obituary

Emil "Lynn" Burress (02-27-1934/02-28-2024)passed away peacefully at Spartanburg Medical Center surrounded by family, one day after he turned 90 years old.

Lynn grew up in the beautiful rolling hills of Clinton TN. He served in the Army as a cook in Germany, where he became interested in photography as a hobby. He, along with his parents purchased an old gas station in Landrum and opened the Sof-T-Freeze, a well known social gathering spot for locals. Lynn worked and managed this location until he and his wife, Shirley purchased property further down 176 and built a new location. After years of operating the Sof-T-Freeze he decided to switch gears and opened a small engine sales and service shop. He worked in the shop with his son, five days a week until the age of eighty-five. Unfortunately, dementia started to affect his mental capabilities and he had to quit working. Lynn always loved cars, boats, motorcycles and sports.  Keith and Kim fondly remember days spent on Lake Lure, going to Atlanta for Braves and Falcon games in the 70's and riding dirt bikes on Glassy Mtn, the Green River area and I-26(the grade)when it was being constructed in Polk Co. Lynn was a member of Landrum First Baptist Church and the only child of Reece and Flossie Burress.

He is preceded in death by his loving high school sweetheart and dedicated wife of 64 years, Shirley Burress.

He will be missed dearly by his children and grandchildren, but they are grateful he's finally at peace in his heavenly home with Shirley.

A celebration of his life will be private and held in Clinton TN, his beloved home state. Memorial donations can be made to the local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
